SMMNRA

The Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area (SMMNRA) was established in 1978. About 869 acres of the SMMNRA is within the Thousand Oaks Planning Area, located at the southern edge of Newbury Park. Within this area is the National Park Service-owned Rancho Sierra Vista and the Satwiwa Native American Indian Culture Center. Trails from Rancho Sierra Vista connect to the Pacific Ocean, through Point Mugu State Park. In 1993, the National Park Service acquired a 315-acre portion of the Broome Ranch, of which 109 acres is within the City’s Planning Area and included in the total acreage above. Access to these areas is from the southern terminus of Wendy Road at Potrero Road and on the south side of Lynn Road opposite Via Andrea.
